The Protector is an American drama television series created by Michael Nankin and Jeffrey Bell. The series stars Ally Walker as Gloria Sheppard, a single mother who struggles to maintain the balance between her personal and professional life as an LAPD homicide detective. The series is broadcast in the United States on the cable channel Lifetime, and is a co-production between ABC Studios and Wass-Stein Productions. It premiered on June 12, 2011.
Lifetime Television will premiere the all-new hour-long procedural drama series, The Protector, starring Ally Walker (Sons of Anarchy, Profiler) as a single mother and detective in the LAPD homicide division, on Sunday, June 12, at 10:00 PM ET/PT. Filmed in Los Angeles, the 13-episode series joins Lifetime's Sunday night line up, premiering immediately following the fifth season finale of Army Wives. For the remainder of the season, it will follow Drop Dead Diva, which premieres on Sunday, June 19, at 9 PM ET/PT. The series is produced by ABC Studios with the creative team of Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias), Nina Wass (Less than Perfect) and Gene Stein (Less than Perfect) serving as executive producers.
The series follows Gloria Sheppard, an LAPD detective attached to the Robbery-Homicide Division. A recent divorcee and single mother, Gloria has to perform her duties as a LAPD homicide detective while raising her twin sons. Gloria's brother, Davey Sheppard, whose house she recently moved in to, helps to raise her two sons Nick and Leo. While at work, Gloria must solve some of Los Angeles most high profile crimes with the assistance of her partner, Detective Michelle Dulcett as well as Detective Ramon "Romeo" Rush, Buerge and Van Stone, while being overseen by her commanding officer, Lieutenant Felix Valdez.
